Description of service provided:
 
South Gloucestershire Finance and Benefits team is a joint team made up of staff from the Dep’t for Work and Pensions Local Pension Service and South Gloucestershire Council Community Care and Housing. We help with applications for state benefits, including State Retirement Pension, Pension Credit, Winter Fuel Payments, Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Carers Allowance. We collect financial information and assess a clients ability to pay for services provided by Community Care and Housing, eg Home Care. We also collect financial information regarding a clients ability to pay Residential / Nursing home charges.
Our normal method of contact is by home visit. Referrals for state benefits and entitlements are made by DWP Pension Centres and the Disability Benefits centre. We also carry out proactive work to identify persons missing out on their entitlements by working in partnership with other organisations in South Gloucestershire and by using data matching information. Referrals for an assessment of Home Care charges and for clients moving into Residential Care / Nursing Home are made from South Gloucestershire Care Management teams / Social Workers. We carry out a full check for missing entitlements at each visit and help complete any necessary claim forms.
